Inlays and Onlays in Yaletown, Vancouver
Inlays and Onlays in Vancouver
Inlays and onlays are often used as an alternative to restorative solutions like dental fillings placed over the biting surface of the teeth. They can be made from several materials, including porcelain, composite resin, and gold.
What Is The Difference Between Inlays, Onlays, and Fillings?
Inlays, onlays, and fillings are similar but feature a few key differences. Inlays and onlays are typically used to fill large cavities, whereas fillings are used for small cavities. Unlike inlays, which are limited to the upper area of the teeth, onlays cover a larger surface, including the cusp of the tooth.
The Inlay and Onlay Procedure
Inlays and onlays typically take two appointments to complete. The first appointment will involve your dentist removing the decayed portion of the tooth and making a mould of it. They may also give you a temporary inlay/onlay to protect the tooth. At your second appointment, the inlay/onlay will be fitted and bonded to the tooth.
